The highest range of courtesans was Tayu. Tayu wore kimonos made of the most expensive, beautifully embroidered silk, with their hair arranged in magnificent coiffures and decorated with big hairpins and combs; they had their guests in luxurious rooms with innumerable chic things around. Being an ideal of beauty, they determined the fashion for hairstyle, kimonos, fans and other accessories of seduction.
